So You're EnGAYged, a LGBT wedding blog

I’m your typical nerd-academic-sociologist-turned-wedding-photographer. Well, maybe that’s not so typical. A few years ago it hit me that making people happy through photographs was far more fulfilling than studying Marx, Weber, or Durkheim. But thinking about society and how people interact with each other has been ingrained in me, so I bring a lot of that to my photos.

But marriage equality has been important to me for years — long before I was actually a wedding photographer or an academic. I’ve had several good friends come out to me over the years, and my love for my friends combined with my sense of social justice put me on a path of striving toward equal rights for same-sex couples. I’ve never been a “wedding-y” person, per se, but I am a romantic and die-hard idealist, and knowing that I could use photography as a means toward gaining social acceptance for same-sex marriage is really wonderful.

I love photographing people in love and creating something that will become such an important part of my clients’ life story. Connecting with them as people is essential to me because I know that a great rapport with your photographer makes for the best photos.

And in case you’re interested to know, I’m based in Chicago and have traveled as far as Spain for a destination wedding!
