My husband and I were fortunate enough to have Rev. Berger officiate our marriage… and we presented her with quite a tall order! When gay marriage finally became legalized in Washington, DC, my (now) husband and I scrambled to make sure that we could get married as soon as it was possible. After having had the pleasure of working with her at the GW Hospital for several years, she was our very first call. It was only about a week before the ceremony and we knew that we were asking a lot for someone to plan and officiate a ceremony in just a week! Rev. Berger was (as always) calm, sweet, level-headed, and excited. We arranged a time to meet and she spent a while talking with the both of us about marriage, each other, and the ceremony. She considered things that we hadn’t even thought of. Besides asking her a mere week before the ceremony if she would officiate, we also had another enormous request: to have the ceremony out in front of the courthouse. Since we planned the ceremony for the very first moment our marriage would be legal, we were asking her to officiate a ceremony on what ended up being international television. Rev. Berger didn’t hesitate a moment and was eager to be a part of our ceremony. Rev. Berger was available and in communication with us almost constantly during the week leading up to the ceremony. She was available night or day by email, phone, or text message. She was always patient and thoughtful; I could ask for a more attentive and caring person. While we were already truly impressed and pleased with Rev. Berger leading up to the ceremony, it was the ceremony itself that blew us out of the water. Rev. Berger is an inspired woman who conducted the most beautiful ceremony I have ever witnessed or been a part of. Her words were eloquent, fitting, and spoke to us and about us beautifully. Surrounded by journalists, TV reporters, and cameras, she didn’t show an ounce of nervousness and officiated a wonderful ceremony. I cannot say enough good things about Rev. Berger. She is someone who I will forever respect and will always have a special place in my heart. We were blessed to have found her to officiate our wedding.- James and Robb
